Consignment Sale Finds

Well it has been a week since I went to the Weecycled Consignment sale. We have had a busy few days here and my grandma was here from California visiting. This sale is traveling and was close by us last week so we decided to check it out. The sale had chances for pre-sale for volunteers, consignors as well as military families. Thank goodness we went then, because it was packed! I can't imagine what it would be like when the doors opened to the public. Some of the moms that were there came prepared let me tell you-they had wagons pulling their goods and even those giant plastic tubs with a rope tied to it. Talk about serious. I made a quick walk around the toys, snagged a tent with a tunnel, an easel as well as a construction table that came equipped with a set of tools for little ones. I decided the easel as well as the tools were going to be hidden until Christmas-mom win!

I found the area packed with boys clothes. When I say packed, I mean it. There were some great deals, and not so great. Besides the gifts that we got, the most I paid was 6.00. Let me show you some of what we got:
Yes, that is a tunnel with a tent...in the middle of the front living room....
TONS of pj's. We're in 18 months now, but I saw a 3 pack of 24 month Carters fleece footies...for 5.00. How do I say no? I'm holding onto a little bit of hope that one day Kaden will want to spend a day in his pj's watching Disney movies once winter comes...and if that day comes- I will be prepared.

how cute are these?! Baby Gap and Old Navy
Gap jean jacket, Old Navy puffer vest and the cutest corduroy coat
Baby Gap jean jacket was 6.00 that my grandma picked out, vest was 5.00 and so was the coat!

Ralph Lauren button up was only 2.50, the rest were 3.00 each. We picked up some jeans too, great deals on those too of course!  And lets not forget my 'retro' shoes-

Overall, I think we got some great finds! The sale is coming our way again in October- I think I might skip the pre-sale and head for the end of the sale where most of what is still there is extra 50% off. I'll let you know what we find then-

Roseola + Essentail Oils = GIVEAWAY

When your baby gets a fever or gets sick, I think it is one of the worst feelings in the world-especially because they can't tell you what is wrong. Over the course of 18 months, Kaden has yet to get a high grade fever...until last weekend. After he woke up from a 3 1/2 hour nap on Saturday, he felt like he was on fire. Normally he is a little warm waking up because he still is a belly sleeper and his room can get warm with the afternoon sun. But on the safe side I took his temperature and it was 100.4 (pretty high for him) and he was really snugly (not his usual behavior) so we were able to have him swallow some Tylenol.

Side note: Kaden hates Tylenol. Refuses to swallow it. So I don't really give him any for teething or shots or any of that unless he really does need it-like for a high fever. However, I do have peppermint essential oil to help with fevers if I need to.

I coughed the fever up to molar teething and didn't think too much of it as long as he was eating and drinking...until 3:30 am on Sunday. He woke up crying which made both of us jump out of bed because he never wakes up unless something is wrong. Turns out he wanted a hug and some snuggles which I was happy to give.  Sunday morning, he wakes up with a rash. When we were in California, he had a slightly similar looking rash but it was due to the dryness of the desert. We thought it this was heat rash since he's been so warm sleeping even with no blanket and cotton pj's.

Sunday's rash
Throughout Sunday, we kept taking his temperature and it had gone up to around 101.4 and hovered around 100-101 throughout the day. But the no-medicine-ninja was on full force and spit out every attempt we gave. I tried disguising it in juice, a smoothie, a slushie, yogurt, no go to all of them and I wasn't about to wrestle him on something that he obviously didn't want nor did he absolutely need.  Now you can call me crazy but I know babies are strong and their bodies are working hard on fighting bugs off naturally so I try to let his body do it on his own. I know that if his fever spiked to 102 or higher we needed to take him in, so we watched him and checked every few hours. He seemed to be acting fairly normal, a little more tired than usual though. We kept making sure he was drinking fluids since his appetite has gone down (again I thought teething) and gave lots of snuggles and hugs when he wanted them.

I talked with a friend later that day and she mentioned that her daughter had the same thing happen to her when we all were in California and it turns out her daughter had Roseola. My first thought was.."Roseol-a-what-a?!" She said it was a viral thing, so we couldn't really give him anything and it had to run its course. So I hopped online to read up on this and the articles basically said: a fever can occur for about 2-3 days followed by a rash and since it is viral illnesses, it just needs to run its course. Kaden needed to drink a lot of fluids and rest basically.

When the word 'viral' was thrown out, I thought about my good ol' essential oils.  I pulled out my On Guard oil (immune booster) and put a few drops on the soles of his feet and gave them a good rub. Since his fever was hovering, I pulled out my peppermint oil to help with his fever. A couple drops of that as well went on the soles of his feet with a good rub.

Monday's rash

We took his temperature before bed and his fever had gone down-happy day! Monday morning I repeated this after he woke up, before nap and before bed and the same thing Tuesday. And by Tuesday evening his rash was gone and he was back to himself.

Tuesday's lack of rash (a little pink from the bath)
I can't help but think that my all natural essential oils helped both his fever as well as his rash.  Peppermint oils has been used as a solution to fevers as well as a myriad of other health concerns. On Guard is a blend of wild orange essential oil, combined with clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary offer a fragrant, natural and effective alternative to synthetic options for immune support. We have used On Guard to battle colds for all of us as well as prevent any other bugs coming our way.

John calls my oils 'hippy dippy' oils, which makes me laugh but he quickly follows up with "but they do work!" SO I want to share one of my favorite oil blends with you! I'm giving away a free 15 ml bottle of
dōTERRA's Protective Blend: On Guard. It is a must in your medicine cabinet for everyone of all ages, especially with kids heading back to school and germs flying around! Mom Style Debut

Hi, my name is Jayshree and I may or may not be a dealaholic.

If you know me, yes. I do love a good deal. I love hunting for the amazing deals and I'm usually the one that will probably have a coupon or a promo code for anything we buy. I can't help it, it's in my genetics I like to say.

I have jumped on the bandwagon of the 'retro' shoe craze and have been on the hunt for a pair for quite some time. My friend Jessica (Kaden's non-biological aunt) has 2 amazing pairs of sneakers that I want to steal love. She also got deals on both of them. I have a hard time swallowing spending around 85.00 for a pair-the deal finder in me was itching to get out and I've scoured the internet for pairs. I think everyone else and their mother had the same idea.

1// 2 // 3 // 4

Last night I went to the pre-sale of the Weecycled Wardwrobe sale for Kaden. Little did I know there was a whole room of shoes for babies up to teenagers apparently...and I recently realized that I can wear big kid shoes! I browsed around the size 5 table and whaddya know...I found these babies:

Want to know the best part?! They cost a whole whopping 5.00

All I needed to do was throw them in the wash with detergent and some of my On Guard Concentrated Cleaner to get them extra clean and they're good to go! I have a feeling that fall is going to come out of left field so these will be perfect for being outside and running errands.

I'm linking up with a fellow mom blogger, Rachel, over at Stickers for Mommy on a weekly style post. Thank you Rachel for inspiring me to share! She has a son about Kaden's age, has a love for deal hunting also is in the Northern Virginia area..it is a win win for everyone around!  Her new post from today may or may not have started a possible online shopping trip...go take a look!

My Oh My...

Hello friends! I'm sorry I have been away for so long, things just seemed to get chaotic over here and then I realize its been forever since I've posted! Thanks for sticking with me :) I have so many amazing ideas I want to share with you all-but I feel like I just don't have enough time in the day to complete all of them as quickly as I would like..which seems to be the story of my life. Here's a quick update on what has been going on:
- We celebrated our 4th anniversary of being married! We got hitched in July of 2010 and since we're fancy we had our wedding over a year later in November of 2011. Since John has been in and out of trainings, my anniversary date was Kaden :) We did get to have a nice dinner on the weekend and he surprised me with a couple new charms for my Pandora bracelet that I absolutely love.
- Kaden and I battled dinner time pretty much ever single night when John was gone. Please tell me I'm not the only one that goes through this. I specifically made things I KNOW he would like...and he would refuse to eat them. I think that the transition of just me and him at dinner did not sit with him since we always sit together and eat as a family and since dad was gone, he knew something was off. Some days it was alright, some days I may or may not have had a glass of wine after bedtime. Do you have any tips on getting your little ones to eat while someone is away?? Please share, I will be keeping any and all suggestions :)
- We went down to Norfolk to visit some of our really good friends for the week while John was in his course. One of the great parts of the military life can be the friendships that you make. We have been friends with Jessica and John for over 5 years now. Both of our husbands were roommates in TBS here in Virginia and they went their separate ways due to their jobs but we have always stayed in contact. Jessica visited me in California multiple times pre-Kaden and even when I brought him home. Both of them were in our wedding party and we were thrilled when we found out we would be close to them again! Unfortunately they are getting ready to move this winter, so we were happy to spend as much time with them as we could. Kaden, Sophie and I packed up my little car and we headed south for a mini-vacation. We visited the Children's Museum of VirginiaVirginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, and the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. We also visited the local library and parks since the weather did not hold up for a beach visit. We of course went shopping and even scoured for some consignment stores, which if you know me-make me very happy :) I love a good deal!
- I have redecorated a good portion of our house. With that comes projects which will be shared. Until then, visit one of my dearest friend's new blog where she shares her craftiness and amazing recipes!  (Also another military friendship that I am forever grateful for)
- I have started over with my PiYo adventure. Time got away from me sadly and I fell off the wagon. Have no worries my friends, I am back on it and am feeling sore. We all have hiccups right?
- This momma went on her first job interview since 2010. More on that later though.
- I'm working with a group of girls to plan a good friend's 'bachelorette' celebration coming up! (Any and all suggestions are welcome!)
- I'm also working with another friend on throwing a sprinkle for some good friends of ours as they prepare for their second baby girl this fall! So many projects!
AND kickball has officially started!

Until then, here are a few moments of our mini vacation (although if you follow me on IG @mrs_watkins723 you may have seen some of these!)  If you're ever around the Norfolk/VA Beach area-check these places out! We loved them- I'm sure you will too!

this just cracks me up every single time
